Waterford Youth Arts August Festival Event Guide!!

16th August Monday

Youth Voices – Poetry and Prose exhibition mounted on Waterford Shop windows. Young people aged 13 – 19 years will create a new work of poetry or prose which will then be exhibited on Waterford Shop windows for two weeks


17th August Tuesday

Art and Archive exhibition opening in Greyfriars and GL Theatre gallery. This exhibition will include archival material from WYA over the last 25 years collated by Kate Mccarthy and Eimear Cheasty and also new work (including drawings, paintings and video) inspired by WYA’s history by Clare Horgan, Paddy Dwan, Anthony Mackey, Alan Ruane, Tom Casey, Eric Flavin, Robert Jackson, Carol Yelverton, Margaret O'Brien Moran, Roisin Kinsella, Clare Scott, Sam Jacob, Gerry Keane, Sue Burkitt, Linda Kavanagh, Geraldine Stafford, Niall Larkin, Jill Bouchier, Anne Genevieve Hanway, Ben Hennessy, Cormac Leane, Katie Bradley, Nick Kavanagh, Martin Kennedy, Berna Lawton, Rosie Dulson, Myra Dulson, Ger Kennedy, John Cullinan, Eileen Kennedy, John O’Connell, David Brazil, Bernie Laherty, John Gallagher, Michael Durand, Jane O’Brien Moran and Suzanne Irish

Summer Theatre play ‘Dark of the Moon’ by Howard Richardson and William Berney opens at Garter Lane Theatre and continues each night and closes Saturday 21st Aug. – directed by Jim Nolan and designed by Deirdre Dwyer.


19th August Thursday

1pm Lunchtime theatre in Granary 3 days of theatre by ex-members of WYA


4pm New Dance ex-members of WYA create new works that will be seen in Garter Lane over the next 3 days


6pm WYD-Eye film unit present a film night at the Granary Theatre.


20th August Friday

11am Play in the park – new play written by young writers Martina Collender and Megan Stokes presented for young children and acted by members of WYA 12 – 14 age group.


1pm Lunchtime Theatre Granary Theatre


2pm Street theatre piece directed by Nick Kavanagh travelling around City Centre


4pm New Dance - Garter Lane.


5pm Plays – rehearsed readings of work written by ex-members - The Arch, Barrack Street.


7pm Jim Daly book launch – a collection of the poetry, prose and plays of Jim Daly edited by Robert Browne, Mark Roper and Jim Nolan


9pm Celebrating Jim Dalys favourite music with an acoustic music session in Jordans Bar.


21st August Saturday

11am Play in the park – new play written by young writers Martina Collender and Megan Stokes presented for young children and acted by members of WYA 12 – 14 age group.


1pm Lunchtime Theatre Granary Theatre


2pm Street theatre piece directed by Nick Kavanagh travelling around City Centre


3pm Youth Voices - New Creative Writing from young people aged 13 – 19 years facilitated by Eimear Cheasty in Central Library.


4pm New Dance - Garter Lane.


5pm Plays – rehearsed readings of work written by ex-members - The Arch, Barrack Street.


6pm Theatre Improv – new work created over the last two days led by Patrick O’Sullivan – Garter Lane Theatre


7.30pm Official Celebration of 25 years of WYA at Garter Lane Theatre Gallery


10pm Live music celebrating WYA in Jordans Bar.


22nd August Sunday

11am Play in the park – new play written by young writers Martina Collender and Megan Stokes presented for young children and acted by members of WYA 12 – 14 age group.


1pm – 6pm LARK IN THE PARK, after a 25-year absence WYA presents a day of music in the Peoples Park with bands and musicians who all have an association with WYA. This afternoon will be aimed as a family friendly picnic day in the park. (Waiting for confirmation of bands to announce names)


Note: All events are free apart from ‘Dark of the Moon’ which is €15 and €10 conc.

Garter Lane and Waterford Youth Arts present the 7th year of Performing Arts Summer School 2010. Dance, drama, art, storytelling and video production are several of the amazing classes on offer to the three different age groups: 4-6 years (€75), 7-9 years (€105) and 10-12 years (€105). Start Your Producing, Directing And Acting Career With This Years Film Summer Camp!

Due to popular demand, Waterford Youth Arts are organizing a never been done before Film and Drama summer camp! This involves camera work, script writing, and acting for the camera as well as making your very own film. Each group will have a full movie made at the end of the week with a showing of their film debut and they will be presented a DVD of their completed work. The age group for the camp is 9-12 years and will be taking place in The Arch, Barrack St. Waterford, on the19th to 23rd July, starting at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and finishing at 12.30 p.m. on Friday. It costs €120 per person.
